About Me

Hello! I'm Katie Thompson.  People call me Katie Thompson. (But my friends call me KTT, Kates, or Nabukenya!)  I grew up in the suburbs of northern Virginia, lived in a nice home with a good family. Throughout my childhood, I played high-level competitive sports and thought I was destined to be a professional athlete.  At the time, that was the only life I knew- the only vision I had for my future.  Life took a big turn and after a career-ending injury, I went on to work at Walt Disney World.  Then I worked as an actress (even dancing with Channing Tatum in a movie, ooooh yeah!), then to co-founding a nonprofit, then to working in Government Operations for a Fortune 50 company... the list goes on!  Back in 2001, my life changed for the better and I had a deep and profound spiritual experience that shifted everything.  That set me on a healthier course towards helping others, developing faith in something greater than me, and seeking forgiveness, healing, and Love above all else.  In 2009, I saw a documentary called 'War Dance', and it awakened in me a passion and a calling that was undeniable. I couldn't shake it.  I knew in an instant, that I was going to Uganda no matter what it took, and against all odds (and rational thinking), that is exactly what I did!  Going to Uganda changed everything.  I found my home away from home, my fiance, my passion, my purpose, and the best, most authentic version of myself. It has been a huge struggle to get to where I am today, but I can tell you I have never been more happy.  For the first time in my life, my passion, purpose, values, vocation and spirit are all in alignment and it is the best feeling I've ever experienced.  They say success is a journey, not a destination. My goal is that every step of my journey is infused with Love.
